Getting to know Morag

An Interview with…Morag

An interview with…Morag

1. Are you named after anyone?

Not that I am aware of.  As far as I know my Dad decided on my name from a book he had read.

2. When was the last time you cried?

When I watching the last episode of SEAL Team Season 1, seeing AJ Buckley cry made me cry (I’m sure I was feeling hormonal that night lol)

3. Do you have kids?

Yes, a son aged 7 and a daughter aged 10.

4. If you were another person, would you be a friend of yourself?

Oh that’s a difficult one, if I was another person who had the same interests as me, no brainer of course I would.  But if I was into e.g. fake reality TV shows, watching soaps, never leaving the house without putting make-up on, etc. I probably wouldn’t befriend me since I hate all that stuff.  I’m lucky if I have time to scrape my wet hair back into a bun after my shower every morning before I leave the house.

5. Do you use sarcasm a lot?

Of course not, I’d never be sarcastic…. Okay, so maybe every second word out of my mouth is sarcastic, but at least it’s not every word, right?  At work, at home, with everyone I know, etc. etc. that’s me alright.  I’ve even managed to successfully teach my daughter how and when to use sarcasm for the best reactions – does that make me a bad Mum?  I seriously hope not!

6. What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Shoes.  I don’t particularly like shoes all that much, but it is definitely the first thing I spot when I meet them, or even if they’re just walking past me!  I guess it comes from my Dad, I see dirty shoes as a sign that the person doesn’t take as much pride in their appearance as they probably should.

7. What is your eye colour?

Blue.  Just like my partner and two children, all blue.

8. Scary movie or happy endings?

Happy endings are okay, but to be honest I’m happy when an ending makes sense and answers all the questions posed in the film. But I’m definitely not a fan of scary movies.

9. Favourite smells?

Cinnamon and spicy Christmas smells are my absolute favourite. Closely followed by citrus smells like lemon. The Magic Tree in our car is always lemon (as it’s the only one we can agree on since my partner hates cinnamon – I know crazy right).

10. What’s the furthest you’ve ever been from home?

I’ve consulted a map and I think it’s Gran Canaria. Been there twice now, once to Puerto Rico when I was about 14 and then to Maspalomas with my partner when my daughter was 22 months old.

11. Do you have any special talents?

If I have, I’ve not found it yet haha! My kids call me Magic Mum because of my ability to think outside the box or improvise to fix things like toys, shoes, school project, etc. But other than that not really. I made the mistake of asking my mum if i had any special talents and she told me I have a talent for starting a fight in an empty house – so not helpful and clearly something I got from her lol

12. Where were you born?

Bellshill Maternity Hospital, Scotland.  It was the only modern maternity hospital at the time so anyone in the Monklands area (now named North Lanarkshire) was most likely born there. The hospital was opened by Queen Elizabeth in 1962, closed in 2001 and eventually demolished in 2003. The land was sold on to developers and blocks of flats now stand on the land where I was born.

13. What are your hobbies?

Crafting, designing, blogging, watching TV and hill walking. We have a kind of casual challenge at work where we try to beat one another’s steppage in a week, but I feel unfairly disadvantaged as the other have dogs they need to walk but no kids lol

14. Do you have any pets?

Nope.  My partner hates the idea of cleaning up after an animal everyday. His logic is you toilet train kids so eventually you don’t have to clean them up daily, you can’t do that with dogs. When he puts it like that, us 3 against his 1 have no comeback to overrule that logic really. I guess as we’re out from 7:30am – 6pm mon-fri it would be cruel.

15. Do you have any siblings?

I have 2 older sisters (9 and 11 years older than me), I used to be close with the middle child, but never my eldest sister. I may only have 2 sisters, but we still have an ever growing family. My Mum now has 10 Grandkids and 4 Great Grandkids.

16. What did you want to be when you grew up?

When I was in primary school I wanted to be an artist or graphic designer.  Although I do creative things in my spare time and sell stuff now and again, including do commissioned/bespoke items for people, those are few and far between as working full time in ICT and having a family to juggle doesn’t leave time for much else.

When I was in high schools my expectations were a little easier, I wanted to be a Joiner.

17. Who was your first best friend?

My first best friend was a girl named Laura as our Mum’s were friends from when they were in beds beside one another at the Maternity hospital. Laura was born the day after me.

18. How tall are you?

I’m 5ft 3inches. My eldest sister and I are both the same height, my other sister and my Mum are 5ft 2inches – so at times I feel really tall lol

19. Funniest moment throughout School?

Most of school I tried to block out but I do remember when I was in 3rd year and in my registration class first thing. The teacher used to read out what was called a Bulletin, basically a list of notices we needed to know for that day like a certain clubs meeting times, a stairwell was closed, etc. But the teacher kept reading to herself then saying out loud, “That’s not for you, that’s not for you.” After several times I said to the people around me, “I guess those aren’t for us then.” Kind of stating the obvious and everyone in earshot laughed. This clearly annoyed the teacher who then said “Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit.” And I remember saying under my breath “And the highest form of intelligence.” Pretty certain I got sent out the class for that one.

20. How many countries have you visited?

Scotland (obviously, I live here), Ireland, Spain (mainland and Canary Islands) I guess that’s 3. I prefer to go on weekend trips closer to home so we’ve been lots of places within Scotland and England.

21. What was your favourite/worst subject in High School?

Favourite: My favourite was Tech (which was what we called wood work, metal work & electronics) I was pretty much an A/B student and that’s probably why I loved it.

Worst: I absolutely hated Math’s. I was ways in the lowest class as I just did not get it. I made a point of getting trained in spreadsheets so if I need things worked out I have one for everything in my life (I kid you not). I am very bad at mental arithmetic, so if I need to work stuff out I know my kids take after their dad and it becomes a fun Math’s game for them (I’m terrible I know) but I have my calculator on my phone if all else fails.

22. What is your Favourite drink?

Vimto (fizzy not still).

23. What is your favourite animal?

I live owls or polar bears.

24. What is your favourite perfume?

Jean Paul Gaultier Classique.

25. What Sports do you play/Have you played?

To be honest…none since I left high school where it was forced upon me to participate.

26. Who are some of your favourite YouTubers?

I’ll be brutally honest here, I rarely go on YouTube unless I forget how to wire a plug or I’m looking to fix something like my phone, laptop, etc.  My kids are always on Youtube and it drives me nuts, if they’re not watching people screaming or shouting, their watching people with annoying voices – seriously annoys me when I’m trying to work too.

27. How would you describe your fashion sense?

Current but subdued.  I hate garish things that are just super bright or in your face.  Having been brought up a Glasgow Rangers fan, I’m not a huge fan of green, so I don’t tend buy things that are green for myself.

28. What phone do you have? (iOS v Android?)

Huawei Mate 9.  It’s got nothing on my last phone which was Huawei Google Nexus 6P, but that broke and I traded it in for my current phone (as I wanted to stay with Huawei) the very day before Google announced they were allowing people to send back the 6P to them for a brand new Pixel.  I was gutted as the very reason I traded my phone in was because of the rubbish battery life and the glitches it had, only to find out Google were allowing you to do the same thing to them!  My old phone served me well, 2 years before I had any issues. (I only ever buy Android, had iOS for years before my experience with Huawei but would never go back to iOS devices, I’m sticking with a brand I like.)

29. Tell us one of your bad habits!

Biting my nails is the worst habit I have, I hate it and I know I can stop but when things stress me out I start biting them before I even realise I’ve chewed them until they’re red raw.

30. What star sign are you?

I’m a Gemini.  I used to know all the star signs, their constellations, etc. when I was a teenager, but now I could barely tell you the one after mine is Cancer(I think…?).  I used to know the characteristics of the star signs and be able to tell people if they were a typical Leo, etc. But not anymore.  I guess if you don’t use knowledge, you lose it (except the lyrics to Corona songs, not used them in years but the minute one comes on, I know every word!  Not sure what that’s about, I have never ever been a fan!)

If you have anymore questions for me, let me know in the comments below or send us a message, we love hearing from you guys.
