Wow! Has it really been 4 months since my last post?
I seriously need to get my priorities in check.
I know the emails are getting neglected, I’m sorry guys. Facebook has very little on it and I don’t think Twitter had been opened since…well since last summer!
Okay, so I’ve been AWOL for 4 months. That means Fireworks night has past, Christmas has been and gone and it’s brand new decade (seriously? Feeling old much?) since new year has past.
Let’s see, what have we been up to? Oh we had the big bonfire and fireworks display in the town centre. The following weekend was the Christmas lights switch on, which Sarah missed as she was at sleepover with her friends for one of their birthdays’, but we went down with Jay and had some of my (world famous – that’s what the kids call it) hot chocolate afterwards.
For Christmas, we had a family one. Pretty quiet but enjoyable. As always I’d been planning the dessert for months haha! Christmas felt a little strange, i think it was the first year Sarah truly didn’t believe in Santa but didn’t want to say anything. Well it was a good run while it lasted, 11 years isn’t half bad.
For new years, we did something different this year. I booked a nice quiet family lodge (with central heating – yey!) in the hopes John would finally de-stress and enjoy some family time. There was a bath in the bathroom, booked especially because i know how much he chills out in the bath. We were there for 3 nights and I loved it! I would definitely go there again. Only next time, I probably wouldn’t forget Jay’s antibiotics for his chest infection, then remember when we were half way there only to have us turn back to get them – gutted about that! The views were great and we got lots of nice pictures, most of which are probably still on my big camera mind you. It did give me time to pull out the DSLR and experiment with it a little.
It’s been a quiet month since new year. Well until John decided to strip the wallpaper off in our bedroom that is. Unfortunately the nice wallpaper we picked out, is very heavy and keeps peeling off at he top (soooo bloody frustrating!!!!). It would be fine if the people we bought the hour from hadn’t used Artex on their ceiling and on the tops of the walls, meaning the wallpaper needs heavy duty paste to stick to it. I don’t know how long the Artex has been up there but knowing our luck if we tried to sand if off, there would end up being asbestos in it and we’d all end up sick. So we decided against sanding it or removing it. The room is half way wallpapered and the other half still needs scraped. I know what you’re thinking, that’s an unusual way of decorating, I get it. But hey it’s causing the least disruption to our lives and sleeping habits, so it works. This weekend coming, we’re hoping to move the bed out and get scraping behind there. We decided since the 2 walls left are where most of the noise comes from – Sarah’s bedroom is on the other side of one of the walls and our noisiest neighbours are on the other side the other wall. So we’re going to buy some Erfurt thick foamed lining paper for both walls then wallpaper over the top in an effort to block out some of the noise John hears at night.
I’ll be sure to post some before and after pics to let you all see our soon to be new bedroom. And also, I will get to those emails, I promise I’ll reply to you at some point if you’re one of those loads of people who have emailed me.
So, what have you guys been up to? Let us know in the comments below.
